EPIcenter's 2020 Summit centers around the topics featured in Dr. Michael Webber's book and docuseries, Power Trip: The Story of Energy.
“ ‘Power Trip: The Story of Energy’ describes the history of energy’s interdependence with water, food, transportation, wealth, cities and security,” EPIcenter CEO Kimberly Britton said. “Our 2020 Summit will look at the innovative and forward-thinking technologies, business models and solutions the future holds for these crucial relationships.”
“I look forward to engaging in meaningful conversations that explore how energy has transformed societies of the past and offers wisdom for today's greatest needs,” Webber said. “We must harness this complex resource to reshape and improve the society of tomorrow.”
The half-day virtual Summit will feature speakers and energy leaders from across the country with diverse perspectives from their field of expertise. Timely keynotes, panel discussions and TECH-Talks will address topics related to chapters in Webber’s book such as lean water systems, microtransit/mobility services, the electrification of food equipment, ‘smart cities,’ fuel logistics and the relationship of energy to producing new materials and machines.
EPIcenter's Summit on Electrification
The half-day Summit will feature speakers from across the country, leaders in their fields with diverse perspectives. Timely keynotes, interesting panels and “hot off line” technology vignettes make up the day. Absorb best practices, lessons learned, and, of course, advanced technologies that are moving us forward into an increasingly electrified society. Other topics include infrastructure readiness, industrial applications in practice, residential and commercial applications, smart city applications, and policy and regulation. The event is for business leaders and savvy citizens looking for a way to leverage the future.
Companies with a technology, device, software platform, or other resource that exemplifies electrification are invited to apply online for a featured spot on the Summit agenda. Just a few will be selected to explain their product in a 10-minute TED-talk-style presentation.
What is Electrification?
Clean Energy Canada offers a very clear explanation:
"The basic recipe goes like this: cut energy waste as much as possible, and clean up your electricity supply so that it's as low carbon as possible. Then use that clean electricity as your source of energy for activities that we largely power with fossil fuels today. Instead of fueling cars with gasoline, power them with clean electricity. Build super-efficient homes, and then use electric pumps to heat and cool them. Design cutting-edge industrial processes that run on renewable power. This economy-wide shift is called electrification.”
